Ib Spang Olsen

11.6.1921 – 15.1.2012

Before Ib Spang Olsen took up studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1945-49, he had already trained as a schoolteacher. He has illustrated many books, including Halfdan Rasmussen’s children’s rhymes, and produced a wealth of lithographic prints. Ib Spang Olsen drew posters for a large number of organisations and causes, including Child Welfare Day, and he designed posters for informative campaigns, museums and exhibitions. The style in his posters is luxuriant, narrative and rustic, with subtle, crinkled strokes. Many of his posters show a strong social commitment and political awareness.
