The red-checked cow, Karoline, which was originally cut from an old kitchen curtain, was developed in 1958 as a trademark for the Danish dairies. It is clearly the most iconic figure among Grete Rich's posters. She trained as a commercial artist at Bonnén's and Rannow's School of Painting in Copenhagen. Grete Rich has also illustrated several children’s books and a number of brochures. Her productions were generally charming and homely with a touch of humour.
