Aage Sikker Hansen

29.7.1897 – 27.10.1955

Aage Sikker Hansen completed his training as a journeyman painter in 1916. He then trained himself as a lithographer. For a number of years he was an illustrator of Politiken's Sunday supplement, Magasinet. He made a name as a book illustrator, and had a wealth of lithographs published. From 1930 until his death he was known for many powerful and effective posters. The best known are his product advertisements for the Danish Co-op. Aage Sikker Hansen's style is rounded, soft and gentle, with quiet simplicity that created an atmosphere of calm in his posters. This is unmistakable, for instance in the poster of the Davre-gryn (breakfast oats) girls. Sikker Hansen used his own daughters as models.
