German glass Christmas decorations

From 22 November 2019 until 19 January 2020

To supplement our current special exhibition “The fall of the wall. German posters before and after 89” we have added a small exhibition of German glass Christmas decorations. Since 1830/1850, German glassblowers have produced hand-made, mouth-blown and brilliantly coloured Christmas decorations in every imaginable shape, which were exported to many parts of the world. Along the way, politics, inventions, national pride, religions, war, and even ideologies, such as socialism in the GDR have made an impact on the glass decorations. However, the traditional German glass decorations have survived through time and are still made the same way today.

The Christmas decorations are on display from 22 November 2019 until 19 January 2020. The displayed glass decorations are for sale in Den Gamle By’s Christmas shop from 22 November until New Year.
